Winamp hates me

This one has got me stumped. Winamp hangs, buffers and freezes whenever I try to play *.wav files. I've tried version 5.3 and 2.95. The only thing I can come up with is that the External that is plugged in is plugged into a USB 1.0 port. Could that do it? Everything else plays fine from this drive includingMP3's. I listen to *.wav the most, and i wanna kill it. I've looked on the net and can't find anythingspasificly related to my problem, these are pCM 44100 HZ Stereo files. I've tried doing a al the scannns made s sure there were no registery errors, there isn't any defragmentation on any of my drives, i've done a tun of uninstalls and reinstalls to no avail. It used to work fine. oh yeah, Sound Forge plays the waves fine. so does Real Player (Thought I had Windows Media Player installed on here but I guess not.) so what gives do any of you have any ideas on what I can try next? Thanks...

But its not a constent thing, if i open a folder ith many files it reallly really d doesn't like that. the fewer files I o oopen t the better the chances of it playin without issues. I know it was worse in the 5.3 version (i'm useing Version 2.95 now.) but any folder when I open it at first really hangs and almost freezes. Very weird stuff that i've never seen.

why do you rely on wave files? they really take a lot of memory to run. I'd try a different port if i were you though, a 2.0 if you have one available

i'm thinkin that's probably wha'ts goin on, i dunno which ports are 1 and which are 2 on my system. is there a way to find this out? also i rely on them because I prefer and like uncompressed audio. I have plenty of memory 4GB DDR 3 so tha'ts not it. probably te the 1 vs 2 thing.

Switch the USB until you learn the 2.0 ports. I'm sure you have some. Not the ones on the front use the back ones.
Next do a clean install of the Winamp. Sometimes, and for no reason it just gets crazy, so reinstalling it fixes it.
Last use the latest version. Normally that one is best.
I personally stopped using it, but do repair it now and than for others and this is my fix it way. Lol

Sure Winamp all versions work with Jaws. Interesting yours does not. What is your Jaws version?

well... i should have looked further. its not Winamp or the USB that is my problem. I somehow got 90% of my p CPU being used up. that's bad. i already cleaned it out once but its stil having issues , swil have to dig further. that could explain why the problems!

All these WAV files. :) Try c cleaner. www.ccleaner.com
Also find the files and remove some of them to an external drive. They also leave temp files, so the C Cleaner should get that fixed.

I tried CCleaner, glad i did a system restore i didn't want it all gone like the stuff in run etc, though i did play with the settings. I'll try Antibites Malware. +

hope it works.

C Cleaner doesn't git rid of it all. You can uncheck the boxes on the things you want to keep.

Also you are just repairing WinAmp, so no need to restore the computer. Just remove it, go to the C drive and remove the folder, than reinstall it. You now have a clean install.

i got that but in other news i got all kinds of recources being used up. i may start another topic as it really worents a different topic on its own.

Oh, I forgot about that.
Here is what I'd do. Disconect everything you don't need to have running. Next run the C Cleaner, and than run the Disc defrager if you haven't. After that see what you have.
When you say resorces do you mean disc space, or memory, or what? That would help.
Make a new topic if you like and describe it exactly.

wel i just looked at the port that the external drive is plugged into, and it appears to be comeing out, i h wonder if i kicked the cord by accident. oops? bet this could have an effect?

Post 20 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 01-Jun-2012 21:44:00

Just might. I mean you've got to understand these chords being disconnected might just cause things not to work?

Post 21 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 01-Jun-2012 21:45:55

um i mean the port itself somehow i think is comeing out. oops.
